Turn a New Leaf
April 15, 2021
Forget the pandemic for just one second,
there’s another crisis that needs to be heard.
The Amazon Rainforest is shrinking, receding;
we can’t ignore it and pretend it doesn’t exist.
We have to care for Mother Nature, not hurt her.
What will happen when she finally gives out?
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.
The deforestation of this forest has been hidden,
forgotten because we’re just too blind to face it.
Raging fires consume the forest, scorching it,
consuming everything in its path without hesitation.
The forest is dying, as the flames keep spreading.
Where’s the limit to this? Is there any remorse?
The future of this forest is to become farmland.
Agriculture. Profit. Is that really its worth?
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.
What will future generations say about this?
Will they point and ask about: where’s this rainforest?
Gone. Destroyed. Why? They’d ask. Why’s it gone?
One word: greed. We are greedy. That’s why.
Do you get the picture? Do you want this future?
No, you wouldn’t. Let’s advocate and save it.
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.
