“Uh, Kendra? You okay?”

I waited, but she didn’t answer–she just smiled.

I shifted nervously in the passenger seat. She’s smiling, so just smile back, I thought. She’d been acting weird the whole drive. Like she was angry, but….

Wait, did she know about me and Bethany?

She looked at me. There was nothing behind her eyes. A chill came over me.

“Why’re you looking at me like that? You sure you’re okay?” My smile faltered while hers grew manic. 

“Of course. I didn’t sabotage my seatbelt.”

“What?”

She laughed as we veered off the road into a tree.
