SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: A Dream in Action

It was just back in February when senior Micheal Clementson told The Scout about his desire for his post-secondary plans. “After high-school, I obviously plan on going to college, but I really hope its at one of the military academies to study International Relations, maybe even continuing to CIA someday.”

Micheal has now reached the next step on his long journey of success.

A leader in the classroom and on the field, Michael Clemenston was recently accepted into The United States Military Academy at West Point. The four-year university located in New York is an officer training school for the United States Army as well as a college for some of the top students in the country. Michael tells us he aspires to become an intelligence officer in the United States Military. As a cadet for West Point, Michael had to go through a rigorous application process that includes a pre-application, application, medical exams, a fitness assessment, a congressional nomination, and an eight-year commitment to the Army upon graduation. After graduation, all cadets become lieutenants in the Army.

As for now, Michael will be heading to West Point unless appointed at the United States Air Force Academy. He will then weigh the options to decide where he will go. Either way, Michael says he will be majoring in Defense and Strategic Studies and/or International Affairs in college. With a goal to work in the United States Army, Michael applied to other army and naval academy schools, as well as top-ranked schools like Georgetown, Baylor, Tulane, American University, and the University of Denver.

Michael is Frederick High School’s Valedictorian for the class of 2020. Michael is also the President of the National Honor Society and was a captain of Frederick’s Varsity football team. He is well-known around the school for his Warrior pride and his drive for success. Within the student body at Frederick, Micheal was also voted ‘Most Likely to Change the World’. “I hope I’ve been a good role model to all my peers in the classes I’ve been in, so I try to help out where I can- and it means a lot that because of these traits I have they’ve chosen me to have this title.”

Micheal told The Scout about the people who pushed him to succeed,

“I would like to add a thank you to all my teachers, counselors, administrators, coaches, teammates, classmates, and family that helped push me to reach my goals and make me feel confident enough to even entertain the thought of applying to a college such as West Point. If it wasn’t for them I doubt I would have ever gotten half as far as I am now.”
