Flu Vs. COVID

Darlene Strange, Staff Writer

Flu season is among us and you may wonder how to tell if you have the flu or COVID. The flu has been around for a very long time and you may think that you know all of the symptoms and how to tell if you have it but unfortunately we now have COVID with similar symptoms.

COVID Symptoms:
Fever
Chills
Cough
Shortness of breath
Body aches
Headache
Fever
Loss of taste and or smell
Sore throat

Flu symptoms:
Fever
Chills
Body aches
Cough
Runny nose

As you can see they both have very similar symptoms but here’s a few things to know. The flu has a vaccine so make sure to go out and get your vaccine to help your chances of not getting the flu. COVID is a new virus that we are just now learning more about so make sure that you’re aware of the people that you have been near. The good news is that the flu can’t turn into COVID, however it is possible to have both viruses at the same exact time.

The flu also comes suddenly meaning that they appear 1-4 days after you were infected where COVID takes up to 5 days to even start seeing symptoms.

Just remember to wear your mask to help control both viruses and to ensure that you aren’t getting anyone else sick. Also note that doctor’s recommendation is to get the flu shot because it could possibly help reduce some of the severe symptoms of both the flu and COVID.
