On April 12,1912 one of the world’s most tragic event had occurred in the Atlantic Ocean. This event had affected thousands of lives as well as taking some. On may 31, 1911 the famous Titanic was built. At one point the Titanic was one of the world’s biggest ships, but the largest ship is the Royal Caribbean Symphony of The Seas which is about 5 times bigger than the titanic. According to Gold Eagle the Titanic is the second largest ship in the world ever built. The Titanic was built to transport passengers between Southampton, England, and New York City. It was the most luxurious ship at it’s time according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. This ship had impacted lives and families with is tragic event.

On April 10, 1912 the Titanic had set sail on it’s  journey from Southampton’s White Star Dock in Queenstown to New York City. It had about 2,240 passengers on it’s voyage. There were three class types in the Titanic, in the first class many wealthy people would buy tickets for this social class and had many luxury benefits. Second class had some benefits too but had bunk beds in each room and a few luxurious things. Third class had just the basics and as well as sharing common bathrooms. As the ship had sailed away and passengers were having fun. Just four days later the disaster had occurred. Edward John Smith the captain as well as the sailors of the ship had accidentally led the ship to an iceberg. The Titanic had hit an iceberg around 11:40 pm, that had created a huge scrape on the right side of the hull below the waterline. It sliced open the hull between watertight compartments while the ship was going 20.5 knots which is equivalent to 23.6 mph. As the ship got struck, many passengers had rushed to the deck of the ship. Here 20 lifeboats had boarded mostly women and children only. These boats could take about 1,178 passengers which is just half of the passengers according to InsiderMany of these lifeboats were underfilled, they could take up to 60 passengers and only had about 20 people. As the ship kept sinking it had split into two pieces. In less than three hours the Titanic had completely sunk to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. With it took 1,514 lives leaving 706 alive. About 39% of first class passengers had died, 58% of second class passengers died, and 76% of the third class passengers had passed away. It took about three hours fr a rescue boat to get the stranded servivors.

In 1997 the film named Titanic was released, it covered everything that had occurred during the ships tragic event. It starred Leonardo DiCaprio who was playing as Jack Dawson, Billy Zane playing Caledon Hockley, and Kate Winslet starring Rose DeWitt. This film is about 3 hours and 16 minutes long, it may seem like a long time but it is a heart warming, devastating, and beautiful film all in one. The Titanic is having it’s 25th anniversary and has been re-released in theaters and is now playing.
